What if I told you that coaches do make such mistakes in kids soccer drills that have the potential to destroy a team and make it a loser. And it’s absolutely right. Many of you must be thinking that how can there be something so big that can destroy a team. Okay then, let it be known that reasons are countless.

You will have to work very watchfully and advantageously in designing soccer drills for kids. It’s very important for you know the kid’s psychology. Exchange words with them discussing things from their point of view. But unfortunately, many coaches are unprepared to adjust to it. They do not appreciate the difference between coaching the kids and coaching mature players.

So here it is; top mistakes or sins as I call them that coaches make and put their teams on a losing track.

1. A lot of them consider their jobs as casual work. They don’t consider in necessary to be prompt in reaching the ground, set up the drills, or systematize practice sessions. These qualities are not just unacceptable and also upset the kids. Kids tend to be very serious about soccer and you should too. Youth soccer drills should be pre-planned. Any equipment required to execute the drills should be assembled in advance.

Always be prompt. Always reach the field before the kids. Well in fact, grace the filed with your presence when kids reach. It has the advantage of finding some extra time to practice the drills and plan other things.

2. Before the sessions, when the coaches impart instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so lost in it so as to loose track of the time. Can you anticipate how boring that can get? You must realize that players are more interested in playing than hearing. Keep your words of wisdom brief and straight forward. Use this talk to motivate the kids and increase their confidence.

Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If the kids do anything incorrectly, make a note of it and share it afterwards. Also, you should be outside the field when the kids are enjoying the game.

3. Some coaches use foul language with the young players. In soccer drills for youth, both the behaviors are unacceptable. It is bad to display weak behaviour on the soccer field. It is Ok if kids make mistakes. Remember, they are just kids. There is no need to get sensitive about it and be rude to the players.

When this happens, you are making the kids loose interest and also making things difficult for yourself. Soccer is played in the mind more than from the body. Make the kids realize this and you would have motivated them.

The reason is that young players are mature enough to demarcate between what works for them and what does not while kids are new to everything.

Kids Soccer Drills: Tips On Warming Up

It is obligatory for me as a coach to highlight the fact that warm up sessions before practice is compulsory and helps players begin their day at a brilliant note. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the players to warm up by following those body movements that help all muscles to work up. This is the most effective way to liven up all muscles in the body. Rigorous sessions can result in stiffness and cramping of the muscles.

Tip 1: In this make the players go for a light 5 to 7 minute jog. It is highly recommended to start with a light jog and then eventually sprint. These give an added element to the skipping exercises. You can also make them cross-over skip. Then you can tell your players to do long shuffles with rotations in the middle. Tell the players to practice backward and forward leg swings. It’s a very efficient activity and helps in toning the body. In the same way, high leg forwards and backwards is also very effective.

Tip 4: Stretching should be adequate and correctly executed. The legs benefit the most out of stretch hinge. Guarantee that all kids work out their hamstring, groin, calf muscles, and quadriceps without missing any of these. The players not only avoid injuries but also get to increase their muscle range by stretching.

I don’t know a thing about you, but I’ll bet that anyone who has played soccer will know the significance of dribbling in kids soccer drills. It’s the ability of the player to move around in the ground with the ball and simultaneously keep it with him. This is the first skill that the kids are taught when the coaching begins.

However, the amount of importance of dribbling skills is vital to settle on. For your kids to become experts in dribbling skills, it’s best to have them do regular drills. As a result the kids learn the fundamentals to move with the ball in field. It’s the skill of dribbling while maintaining contact with the ball which lets you leave behind several opponents in the play ground.

Learn by heart these basic tricks like playing with the ball in order to become a great dribbler. Kids soccer drills coach the kids to use the surface of their foot. Most often they will be using the front portion of their instep, especially when dribbling at a high speed.

Train the kids on remaining alert with respect to the ball while in the field. Kids must keep an eye on the playing field and concentrate on the ball while dribbling.

Help them improve upon their weak foot. Soccer drills for youth will help get their weak foot improve gradually by continuously hitting the ball against the wall with the same weak foot. In the spare time, kids should play about with a soccer ball. Guide the kids to just spin the ball backward and forward with the help of the weaker foot even when they are sitting. The ability to retain the control of the ball will improve with regular practice.
