Villa – Tomorrow’s Choices

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

I believed I would take a break from my usual monetary meanderings and write about a recent trip my wife and I took to Spain. Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun plus the recent climate inside the UK quite a lot pushed us onto a plane without too much resistance.

Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just 1 win in their last 10 games, Villa are low on confidence. The game at Anfield brought their defensive frailties towards the fore, as well as the squad were particularly vulnerable to set-pieces. This was evident inside the 1st goal for the Reds on 13 minutes that resulted from a corner right after Warnock conceded the ball to Kuyt.

After a bit internet searching we came across a rented villa, not through a key company but privately. I was slightly hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in reality the drive was so effortless on one straight road I had absolutely nothing to fear.

We landed at Malaga around 2pm (a most sensible time to fly), collected our rental auto from underneath Malaga Airport (one of Malaga Airports greatest selling points) and by 4pm was sitting on the villa balcony comfortably warm holding a good glass of chilled wine.

Beneath was Lake Vinuela a attractive blue ocean tucked between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.

West Brom recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Newcastle  in match week 16, their 1st league win over the Magpies in 18 attempts, over a quarter- century. Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position in the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes by way of a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an opportunity to equalise immediately following the interval but Carson was equalt to the task as he saved a Taylor shot.

Di Matteo’s squad had been useful in defence even as they negated the twin threats of Carroll and Ameobi, and when Odemwingie scored on 71 minutes, he had secured the game for Albion.

three smart bedrooms, two clean bathrooms, modern day kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with home comforts. not that we had been going to invest a great deal of time here however it was great to know we were not going to slum it. Outside we had our own private pool, brick BBQ location and sun terrace with incredible views down the hillside.

After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position in the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, although West Brom have jumped as much as ninth.

Hints About Goalie Equipment

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

How do you turn out to be a greater soccer goalie? The answer would be to master the lost art of basically catching the soccer ball. Simply blocking shots typically won’t do much much more than enhance your save stats. As the old frame of mind returns, so will a new breed of “better” goalies.

To obtain a basic lacrosse stick, expect to invest about $20-$30. Balls are generally provided by the school or team, and there could be several extra training sticks lying around, but players are expected to have their own crosses(sticks) to play with.

Change Your Thought Process

Very first of all, goalies have to change their thought process. Just slapping the ball away accomplishes nothing more than giving the offensive team another crack at the goal.

Adequate Training

Repetition is the key. You play like you practice. A goalkeeper should attempt to catch just about every single ball in the air in practice. It is most efficient to train using a partner. Start off by kicking the ball from the air at each other. Use a mix of volleys, half-volleys, shots on the ground, and headers. Make certain to training good form and fundamentals with every single catch, and most importantly, “cushion each and every catch.”

Cushioning The Catch

Although attempting to stay away from becoming a physics professor, here is really a fairly basic explanation of ‘cushioning each catch. This would be the reasoning behind airbags given that they raise the level of time your body is impacting the within of your vehicle. An airbag will boost the quantity of time versus an effect having a windshield by approximately a factor of 100. This identical effect is seen when a boxer “rides a punch” by moving his head backwards throughout a punch. If the time of influence is changed from 1/10 of the 2nd to 1 second, the force felt will similarly decrease to 1/10.
